To mark World Alzheimer’s Day, the Bhubaneswar Chapter of the Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), in collaboration with Silver Age Foundation for Elders, organized community engagement programs to raise awareness on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The initiative was supported under the CSR program of CSM Technologies Limited (formerly known as CSM Technologies Private Limited).
Dementia and Alzheimer’s remain highly stigmatized health challenges in India. With the rise of nuclear families and increasing longevity, nearly one crore people above 60 are estimated to be affected nationwide. In Odisha, where awareness and care facilities are minimal, such programs are crucial to educating communities and encouraging early prevention strategies.
At the morning session, over 150 participants interacted with psychologists including Dr. Nidhee Garg (Kalinga Hospital), Manisha Mishra, and Seselsa Sen. They addressed key questions about the differences between dementia and Alzheimer’s, ways to prevent dementia, and how to care for a healthy brain. Trustees of Silver Age Foundation, Lucy Patnaik and Banita Mahapatra, also shared insights on the challenges of dementia caregiving.

As India’s leading national organization for dementia and Alzheimer’s care since 1992, ARDSI continues to expand its efforts through 20 chapters nationwide.
