Cyber Safety for Elders Masterclass Helping Seniors Navigate the Digital World

Senior citizens often find themselves navigating unfamiliar paths. Ringing phones with unknown voices, sudden UPI alerts, or frightening messages claiming “digital arrest.” For many elders, these moments are not just confusing but genuinely unsettling. Recognizing this vulnerability, the Silver Age Foundation for Elders organised a warm, interactive “Cyber Safety for Elders” masterclass in Bhubaneswar, bringing together more than 120 senior citizens. The event saw the active presence and guidance of ADG Arun Bothra, who emphasised that cyber criminals increasingly prey on fear and greed, and that awareness is key to defence.

The session felt less like a workshop and more like a friendly circle, experts unpacking everyday cyber traps and turning them into simple stories elders could immediately relate to. Amar Jyoti Mahapatra (Co-founder & Chairperson of Silver Age) recalled their impetus for the initiative after seeing members fall prey to scams. Alongside him, trustees Banita Mahapatra and Lucy Patnaik spoke of the importance of detailed awareness rather than just broad messages. Meanwhile, Lagna Panda, Director at CSM Technologies described how CSM supported the #Tech4Elders initiative, partnering to help elders feel safe, capable and empowered in a fast-changing digital world.

Together, Silver Age Foundation and CSM Technologies showed that technology need not be intimidating, it can be a steady companion when guided with kindness and clarity.
