Driving Agri-Entrepreneurship with MKUY and JIFTS in Odisha
The Government of Odisha has been at the forefront of leveraging digital platforms to transform agriculture and rural livelihoods. A landmark initiative under this vision is the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), launched through the GO SUGAM portal on 3rd May 2022. The scheme is designed to promote agri-entrepreneurship by providing capital investment subsidies and simplifying the process for individuals, groups, and organizations to set up commercial agri-enterprises.
The MKUY portal serves as a single-window digital system, eliminating the need for multiple office visits. Entrepreneurs can apply online, upload documents, and track applications in real time. Transparent workflows, auto-verification of Aadhaar and land records, and integration with multiple departments have drastically reduced approval times. To date, over 12,000 projects have been facilitated, with the turnaround time for sanctions reduced by more than 50%. By extending subsidies of up to ₹1 crore, with special provisions for women, SC, ST, PwD, and other marginalized groups, MKUY has emerged as a powerful enabler of inclusive growth, rural income generation, and job creation.
Building on this foundation, the state introduced the Just-In-Time Funding System (JIFTS), which went live on 20th August 2025. JIFTS ensures that once a project is approved under MKUY or similar schemes, the associated subsidies are disbursed instantly and directly into the beneficiary’s bank account. By integrating seamlessly with financial institutions, the system uses RTGS, NEFT, and IMPS channels for real-time fund transfers. With automation embedded across the workflow, JIFTS minimizes human intervention, reduces errors, prevents leakage, and maintains a complete audit trail for every transaction.
Together, MKUY and JIFTS demonstrate the power of digital governance in agriculture. While MKUY simplifies and accelerates the journey of setting up agri-enterprises, JIFTS ensures that financial support reaches entrepreneurs in a timely, transparent, and accountable manner. This synergy not only empowers farmers and rural entrepreneurs but also strengthens Odisha’s commitment to inclusive and technology-driven governance.
