In a state like Odisha, India’s largest coal-producing region and a mineral-rich powerhouse, ensuring transparency, compliance, and efficient governance in the mining sector is critical. Prior to digitization, the sector faced rampant issues like revenue leakage, manual dependency, unverified dispatches, and inefficient coordination across stakeholders. To address these, the Government of Odisha, in collaboration with CSM Tech, launched the Integrated Mines & Mineral Management System (i3MS) a first-of-its-kind initiative to digitize the entire mining value chain and create a tamper-proof, real-time monitoring system that drives accountability and maximizes royalty collection.

The Department of Steel & Mines, Government of Odisha, implemented the Integrated Mines & Mineral Management System (i3MS) in December 2010 to bring transparency, efficiency, and control across the state’s mining ecosystem. As one of India’s leading mineral-rich states, Odisha needed a solution that could digitize operations, reduce revenue leakages, and enable real-time monitoring of mineral extraction and movement. The implementation of i3MS led to several key benefits:
