Reinforcing its commitment to responsible digital transformation and community welfare, CSM extended its support to the Silver Age Foundation for Elders in conducting a series of Cyber Safety Awareness Programs for senior citizens across Bhubaneswar on 17th and 21st February. The initiative, held at five different locations across the city, was undertaken as part of CSM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at strengthening digital inclusion and safeguarding vulnerable communities in an increasingly connected world.
The awareness sessions were conducted at Utkal Vatika Community Center, Community Hall at New AG Colony, the Meeting Hall of the Corporator/Ward-61 Office in Bhimtangi, Community Hall at NBCC near New Government Colony in Gajapati Nagar, and another prominent community venue in Bhubaneswar. Each session witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens keen to better understand the risks associated with digital platforms and learn practical ways to protect themselves online.
The sessions were led by Shri Lingaraj Sethi, Cyber Security Expert from Cyber Innovation Foundation (CIF), Bhubaneswar, and Shri Pratap Kumar Das, Sub-Inspector, Cyber Crime & Economic Offence Police Station, VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar under the Cuttack Commissionerate Police. Drawing from their professional expertise and on-ground experience, they provided valuable insights into the growing landscape of cyber fraud and the common tactics used to target senior citizens.
Through interactive discussions and real-life examples, the experts guided participants on identifying phishing attempts, avoiding fraudulent calls and messages, securing digital payments, and protecting personal and financial information. Practical demonstrations and simple explanations helped demystify cyber security concepts, enabling attendees to build confidence while using smartphones, online banking services, and social media platforms.
With the steady rise in digital adoption among the elderly population, the risk of cybercrime has become a pressing concern. By supporting this initiative, CSM reaffirmed its belief that digital transformation must be inclusive and secure. Empowering senior citizens with knowledge and preventive awareness reflects the organization’s broader commitment to fostering a safe and resilient digital society.
The positive response across all five locations highlighted the importance of sustained community-level engagement in cyber safety. Through its CSR interventions and collaboration with credible institutions and law enforcement authorities, CSM continues to translate its technological expertise into meaningful social impact, contributing to a safer and more informed digital ecosystem for all.
