On the occasion of World Standards Day 2025, observed under the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17,” the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) unveiled its next-generation Online Standards Development (OSD) Module at the National Institute of Training for Standardization (NITS), Noida. The event marked a significant step forward in India’s journey toward digital transformation in the field of standardization and quality management.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri B.L. Verma, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, who officially launched the OSD module of the BIS Portal. The event was also attended by Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General, BIS; Shri Sanjay Garg, Officer on Special Duty, BIS; Shri Bharat Khera, Additional Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs; along with several Deputy Director Generals and the Chief Vigilance Officer of BIS.
As the technology partner for the BIS digital transformation initiative, CSM Technologies congratulates BIS and the Government of India on this remarkable milestone. Representing CSM at the event were Mr. Pradyut Mohan Dash (Chief Technology Officer) and Mr. Alok Kumar Basiston (Vice President, Operations), who joined the dignitaries in celebrating this historic achievement on World Standards Day.
A Digital Milestone in Standards Formulation
At the core of the newly launched BIS Portal is the Online Standards Development (OSD) Module, a pioneering digital solution that revolutionizes how standards are drafted, reviewed, and approved. The OSD module enables real-time, collaborative drafting, allowing multiple committee members to work simultaneously on the same document. It features structured templates, intelligent commenting tools, cross-referencing, and complete version control—ensuring uniformity, transparency, and accuracy in the development of Indian Standards.
By digitizing the end-to-end standards formulation process, the OSD module significantly reduces approval timelines while enhancing inclusivity and stakeholder engagement. Member Secretaries can manage workflows, reviews, and approvals seamlessly within the system, supported by automated notifications and audit trails. Once finalized, standards can be published instantly in multiple formats such as Word, PDF, or XML for easy dissemination.
Driving Transparency, Collaboration, and Quality
The OSD module exemplifies India’s commitment to adopting global best practices in standardization. It mirrors similar systems used by leading international organizations like ISO, ANSI, and DIN, while incorporating localized innovation for scale and inclusivity. Through this platform, BIS aims to foster greater collaboration among industry experts, academia, policymakers, and citizens—creating a more transparent, agile, and data-driven approach to quality management.
A Step Toward Global Leadership
The launch of the BIS Portal and OSD Module represents a major leap in India’s journey toward becoming a global benchmark in digital standardization. By integrating technology with governance, BIS and CSM Technologies have built an ecosystem that ensures faster, transparent, and more accountable standards development—laying the foundation for a stronger, innovation-driven India.
