National Soil Information System

Sustainable soil management is required to preserve the soil quality and enhance it for better production. The increasing demand for feeding more than 9 million by 2050 (FAO, UN) demands increased agricultural production. Enhanced quality of soil is the only way out.  CSM’s National Soil Information System of Ethiopia is end-to-end automation intended to provide new capabilities for users of the system. Soil Information System leverages advanced sensors and intelligent targeting and geo-processing algorithms to produce high resolution, accurate soil and topographic information. Cognizant of this, the Government of Ethiopia (MoA and ATA) in collaboration with the national and international development partners have made a great effort to establish a National Soil Information system (NSIS). NSIS is a centralized platform that facilitates easy & faster information exchange among the key stakeholders through data consolidation from the survey, and soil sample testing to mapping & visualization of soil properties and types.

NSIS enables more effective solutions for dealing with the unique challenges of problem spots in the field. It optimizes plant health and improves overall crop quality.

CSM Tech developed National Soil Information System (NSIS) in association with Africom Technologies has a computerized database containing information about the topography, soils, climate, vegetation, and land use, ideally complemented by compatible databases of socio­economic factors, and linked to a GIS.
