The farm sector has seen the rising impact of Digital Transformation. Emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), drones, and Big Data & Analytics are opening up possibilities and preparing the ground for Agriculture 4.0. These digital technologies are providing solutions for many complex worries in the farm-to-fork chain.

Procurement is the first crucial step in this chain. It’s a tricky challenge to navigate as the fate of millions of farmers is linked to it. It is valued at $488 billion employs around half of the country’s population of 1.3 billion and contributes 18 percent to the Gross Value Added (GVA). For authorities too, procurement is of especial interest as they need to ensure that only the genuine farmers avail themselves the benefits. Governments have digitized the procurement chain by creating farm registries with authenticated credentials of farmers and integrating them with the land records databases. However, that alone hasn’t plugged all leakages in procurement and post-harvest management. The classification of lands on paper has not always tallied with that on the ground. Moreover, end-to-end digital integration has not fully helped in figuring out the provenance of crops and the farmers raising them. An integrated crop analytics solution is the answer to the many-layered procurement riddle.

Accurate and timely crop analytics can enable state authorities to have end-to-end visibility into farms and farmers. Additionally, it can identify genuine beneficiaries and help governments to maximize the impact of interventions in the farm sector. Crop analytics can provide new possibilities in procurement by harnessing data at the hyper-local level.
